Hi Everyone,
I will be grateful for advice.
I had a car accident on 2nd February. It was black snow, my car skidded and hit head on with another car on the opposite lane.
My car has been written off and I received some amount from the insurer(Aviva).
Today I have received a claim form from county court for damages arising from RTC.(Financial loss 2500 GBP+ personal Injury loss 1000 GBP+unspecified damage b/w 5000-15000 GBP)
This claim form is enclosed with medical report of claimant and is addressed to me to respond in 14 days.
I did have comprehensive cover with NCP. I do have legal cover as well.
My question is Do I have to respond to this form or my insurance company?
If the insurance company has to deal with it, why have they sent me the claim form. There is no mention about insurance company on form at all!
Many Thanks for your help and advice.

Honda CRV CV boot torn advice requested

Bought CRV new in 2009 shortly after I noticed black greasy deposit on Front right wheel. Thought it was muck out the engine, cleaned it off and it came back. Car had first service and I then had a thought that it could be CV joint or other. Put the car in to dealer for inspection and they confirmed CV joint torn 1-2 cm tear. I inspected car myself and saw grease everywhere, I suspect that the joint has been running dry of grease for some time I suspect the tear has been apparent for 15000 miles or more.
The garage replaced CV boot and advised me that CV joint is fine, I was and I am still sceptical about this. For over a year moisture, dirt and grit have had access to CV joint, not to mention that the grease was possibly not there for proper lubrication. Anyway, cleaned down inside of wheel and surroundings and kept an eye out for leaks. None were observed for first 200 miles and not noticed again until about 2000 miles. Noticeable smears on the inside of wheel again. I inspected assembly and it looked to me as if grease was leaking from a) Circlip that retains boot at wheel end of axle or b)from the seal at the wheel hub connection.
Latest from garage today is everything is fine, no leak of grease from that area and it is old grease that is causing this staining on the inside rim of the front wheel.
Firstly my main concern is it likely that the CV joint is OK after this experience and should I insist that it is replaced under warranty ?
Secondly would you expect to still see spots of grease on the inside rim of the wheel from old gease left from original episode ?

Currently the fronts are 185/55 R14 and the rears are 185/60 R14

3 weeks ago we changed in our Mondeo Estate for a Volvo S80 at an independent garage.

We phoned the next day to politely point out that the drivers door panel had fallen off on the way home and were told that he was ****** unhappy about the car we sold him as it needed quite a bit of work done (wheel bearing, suspension joint) and it would cost him about £500 to put right - why didn't we tell him. We had given him the keys and told him to take it for a drive (which he didn't do). He mentioned about the rust on the bottom of the doors which we agreed was quite bad for its age and agreed to a price reduction. We asked him what he wanted us to do and he said "nothing - I'm a big boy I can take it". We repaired the door panel ourself.

Now we have discovered a serious problem with our car - a minor oil leak turns out to be coming from under the rocker cover and is prob. a seal which means the timing chain is contaminated and will have to be changed - est. cost £1000! Not covered on the useless 6 months warranty and he is washing his hands of us. Ranted for about 20 minutes about the fact that injectors have gone on our car and costing him £700 to replace - we pointed out we didn't know that and it was driving fine when we handed it in.

What should we do? Incidentally the car is not the same spec as advertised - no CD changer, no trip computer etc. but we've just accepted that as not really mega important.

Should we go back and insist on a refund or get shot of it elsewhere and take it on the chin?

Should we have told him about the wheel bearing noise (which we did know about) or are we right to think that he, being the expert, was responsible for checking the car thoroughly?

The nearside tail light on my 1999 Focus 1.6 petrol has stopped working. I have swapped over the bulbs and bulb holders from the working bulb on the drivers side and it still doesn't work. I've tried a new bulb. I've cleaned-out the bulb-holders but nothing works. I have tested the continuity of the cable (orange/white) back to the cable assembly in the passenger-side footwell and cannot find any breaks. With the lights on, the multimeter is not showing a voltage on the orange/white cable in the cable assembly in the passenger-side footwell. I have checked all of the fuses in the fusebox under the bonnet and they are fine.

What other places can I check?

I have seen a thread in another forum suggesting the the cable assembly in the passenger-side footwell is disconnected from its socket for 10 mins with the negative terminal removed from the battery. Supposedly, this resets the 'computer'. Can anyone vouch for this suggestion as a viable solution?

Thanks,

Crash due to ABS Failure on Renault Clio?

Hello,

I was recently involved in a pretty bad accident.

I was doing about 70mph in the middle lane of the motorway when a car pulled in to my lane from the slow lane without indicating.

I swerved into the fast lane to avoid him and lost control of the car. I just remember not being able to straighten it up again. It swerved accross all three lanes of the motorway, spun round and travelled down hard shoulder backwards before slipping down the embankment, rolling over once sideways and finally coming to rest at the bottom back on it's wheels.

I'm lucky to be alive and that I no other cars were involved.

I went to see the car at the recovery place after the accident and the guy that dragged it out of the embankment said that the front wheel (or both, can't remember) would not budge.

This made me wonder if maybe the ABS had failed and the front brakes had seized. If this was the case, it would explain quite a few things;

1. The big skid mark diagnoally accross the motorway
2. The fact I lost control so quickly
3. The fact that the car spun round and went backwards down the hard shoulder

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts? I didn't have a flat, and there was nothing physically obvious that I could see around either of the front wheels that would have prevented them from moving round. Could an ABS failure cause the front wheels to lock up? Has anyone else had a similar experience? I rang the garage and asked them if they would examine the brakes but they basically told me they had better things to do (more politely though).

The car had only recently got though it's MOT (it was a 2004 Renault Clio).

The car that caused me to swerve did not stop and I didn't get his plate number as it all happened so quickly. I'm guessing (hoping) my fully comp insurance will cover it, but it would be nice to know what caused me to lose control so quickly. If it was simply the speed involved and the fact that I swerved a bit too violently then I could live with that. If it was something to do with the car then I'm not sure that would really change anything... it's more out of curiosity really.

Thanks in advance,
Rob

i am new to this forum and after a bit of advice really.
i have a citroen relay van (2009/59) and every time i get a stone chip it goes straight down to the metal and the paint peels.
the van has been checked at my local citroen dealer and the paint thickness measures between 46 and 97 microns when it should be between 125 and 180 microns.
citroen have confirmed there is no primer under the paint and have agreed to respray the vehicle which could take up to 4 weeks.
my question is would you accept this as a remedy or am i asking to much expecting them to change the van for one thats built to an acceptable standard.
any advice would be very much appreciated :D

I've just purchased a Ford Focus 2001 1.6 LX with 56,000 miles on the clock. Driving around town everythings perfect, couldn't fault a thing, however when I went on the motorway recently, the temperature gauge started playing up. At a constant speed of 70-75mph it stayed, as it always does, in the middle between cold and hot. But as soon as I hit 80mph it rose into the red? I slowed back to 75mph and it went back to the middle! I kept going from 75 to 80 and back to 75 and it just kept doing the same thing? Anyone have any idea whats going on at all? I'm pretty sure the engine wasn't overheating as after 1hr and half of driving on the motorway i felt the bonnet and i wouldn't even say it was very warm?
Your advice would be of great help!

I'm recently retired and planning to undertake a lifelong ambition to drive to Italy via different routes going and returning.
I've never driven abroad and am a little anxious, although I'm told it becomes almost second nature after a day or two.
I've held a licence and driven since I was 16, for pleasure and business..without a major accident, despite losing the sight in one eye when I was 14.
This was never an issue when I learned to drive and have always been told that providing I have full vision in the one eye (which i do) I am not breaking any laws.
My question is in regard to the laws in Europe..are there any which prohibits me under these circumstances from driving in any EU country?
