I am a new member to the rac and i used their service for the first time today and was not too happy with the service i received. I called them as i required assistance getting my car to the garage to be repaired as petrol was leaking quite badly from the petrol filter so much so that all the petrol i had in the car had drained out. I didn't want to risk driving the car to the garage myself as although only 15 minutes away i didn't want to run the risk of running out of petrol on route and the garage had advised me it would be best to get the car uplifted to them. The rac man arrived quite quickly (about 30 mins) but was unhelpful from the start. As soon as he arrived and i explained what the problem was he asked why i couldn't just get it fixed at the garage that is present in my flat car park. I explained that it wasn't a business just someone's lock up and the man who owned it had already taken a look at my car and it was to his friends garage that i wanted to get the car to for repair. When i explained where the garage was he said it was too far despite only being 15 minutes away and would take me to a local garage 10 minutes away. I told him i didn't want to go to the local garage as i had already spoke to the other garage and had arranged to drop the car of with them. He wouldn't take me to my choosen garage and said he would try and stop the leak so i could drive the car to the garage myself. He proceeded to place a bit of paper towel over the leak and placed duck tape over the top of the paper towel to hold it in place. He said this was the best he could do. He then followed me round to the petrol station to fill the car up and then said he would follow me down the road. I told him i needed to return to my flat 2 minutes away to pick up my bag as i had only grapped my purse in order to pay for the fuel, he wasn't happy to do this so he left. In the end i managed to get the car to the garage myself.
I was not happy with the service i received from them and i future will think twice before calling them out.

Hi Guys & Gals.
My wifes 2003 Nissan Micra 1.2 SE 3dr has developed a fault with the front windscreen wipers. They occasionally operate when the switch is in the off position. They run continuously until the right or left indicators are operated and the wipers then return to the parked position. On cancelling the direction indicators the wipers start once again.
Could there be a connection with the fact that sometimes the remote control fails to lock and immobilise the car without first walking around and opening and closing the passenger door?
Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so what was the solution?
Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
I think it's time for a newer car. Although I like and can afford a 2000 3-Series, my mechanic said I should go for a Toyota or Lexus because they're 'better cars'.

Can anyone help me decide please? Budget is £5k max!

I am looking to purchase a second hand Kia Sedona. Having 2 small children and also going through the process of becoming a childminder, I need a 7 seater car.

I like the Kia Sedona's due to the fact that they have the sliding doors, so I dont have to worry about the squeezing the children out of the car when having to park in a smaller space.

Does anyone have a Kia Sedona and how would you rate it? Are they reliable? I have been told that the safety report isn't too good on them? Is ths correct?

Would really appreciate some advise. Thanks.

Hi,

My name is Richard Sparrow and I am a final year student at Teesside University. As part of my final year dissertation research I am investigating the impact of the new UK emissions based Vehicle Excise Duty (Road Tax) system on 4x4 users. To do this, I am looking for UK 4x4 users who would be willing to complete a short, anonymous online questionnaire.

I have set up a Facebook group to explain a little more about my research here:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=294677402961

and the survey itself can be found here:

http://roadtaxsurvey.questionpro.com/

The survey takes roughly 10 minutes to complete, and I would be very grateful if anybody could find the time to complete it. If you have any questions about the survey or my research please do not hesitate to contact me,

Thanks

Richard Sparrow

My usual 35 mile hike to work involves 30 miles of motorway driving each way. I'm noticing more and more that 70 mph seems to be the minimum speed expected.

You know how annoying it is when you're in the middle lane and someone ahead is doing 50 mph despite clear lanesahead? (I won't mention the friggin idiot who pulled out at 45 mph right in front of me on me when I was doing 70. Oh, just did. If it was you - White Astra on the M61 just before Bolton Services at 7am on Tuesday just gone then LEARN TO DRIVE!!! Ahem.....)

Well drivers seems to have the same thing about people doing 70 on the nearside lane (the one nearest the hard shoulder). I try and follow the highway code and stick to the nearside lane whenever I can to allow traffic to flow. So why is it, when doing 70 in that lane, do I still get idiots up my backside flashing their lights etc etc?

I'm seriously getting fed up with driving because of the attitude of other drivers. I really am thinking of packing in. It does mean giving up my job, but I'm not sure its worth the stress. I've taken the pass plus and the instructor said he was one of the best pupils he's had. I hope he meant it because I do try and take care on the roads, obey the rules etc etc.

One road I go on is a 30 mph and it has average speed checks. So why am I treated like a criminal by other drivers for daring to stick to it?

And I'm sick of people moaning about too many speed cameras, police persecuting motorists etc etc. If drivers can't behave themselves then I reckon we should have more cameras and better still automatic revocation of licences when an offence is committed.

At least that way drivers who want nothing more to drive safely from A to B can do so in peace.

.
